BlackBerry Priv goes through fire torture test – will it survive

Remember Jerry the young man behind YouTube channel JerryRigEverything? If not, he was the one who proved that it takes very little effort to bend the Huawei Nexus 6P in half. Well, Jerry is back. This time, however, he has put a different device through a similar test. That device is the new BlackBerry Priv. BlackBerry Priv put through fire test In Jerry s first test, he shows how the BlackBerry Priv s screen measures up against keys and change in your pocket. It showed that the screen will survive keys and coins. However, if things like sand were to rub against the screen, this could leave unsightly scratches on the screen. The test also reveals that you shouldn t put your Priv in your pocket. Although the screen can withstand keys and coins, the camera lens cannot. The test shows that the camera lens got scratched when keys rubbed against it. The test also revealed that the keys on the QWERTY keyboard can easily get scratched. This is understandable since they are made of plastic.

HTC One M9 subjected to drop and fire test – will it survive?

The HTC One M9 flagship was subjected to two types of torture tests. The first is the usual drop test, while the other is a fire test. The question is, will the smartphone survive? Let s find out. In the drop test, the HTC One M9 is dropped on its side from the chest. It doesn t sustain that much damage, apart from bumps and scratches on the bottom of the smartphone. The next drop test was done by removing the surface underneath the device. The M9 violently landed on its back. The fall causes minor scratches, but the camera app failed to launch. The display-side drop was the last drop test. This cracked the glass, but the phone still functioned. Next up is the fire test. The HTC One M9 was fired up to 700 degrees centigrade with a blowtorch. This killed the device, but we re sure the result will be the same with any other device. Here s the video: The drop test reveals that the HTC One M9 is anything but rugged. So do your best not to drop the device. Did this video satisfy your nee

Samsung Galaxy S6 put through scratch, fire, and bend test – proves smartphone is as tough as nails

YouTube channel JerryRigEverything has sacrificed his own Samsung Galaxy S6 to show us if the smartphone can withstand scratch, fire, and bend tests. The good news is, if you were planning to get your hands on the smartphone, the S6 survived the tests. JerryRigEverything first put the Galaxy S6 through a scratch test, using keys, a screwdriver, and a knife. The screen, which is protected by Corning s Gorilla Glass 4, survived the series of scratch tests unscathed. The YouTube channel then put the smartphone through a fire test, lighting the S6 up with a lighter both on the screen and on the aluminium frame. The fire didn t do anything to both the frame and screen. The last test JerryRigEverything put the S6 through was a bend test. His test reveals that it will take a pretty strong person to bend the smartphone, as it took him multiple tries to bend the S6. The tester had to bend and twist to bend the smartphone. Despite this, it still worked. Hit play below to see the tests for yo

Amazon Fire Phone 2 not coming until 2016

According to a report, Amazon is working on the Fire Phone 2, the successor of this year s Fire Phone. This isn t really surprising, despite the smartphone failing to capture the market (in other words a monumental flop). What is surprising is, the report says that we won t see the Fire Phone 2 until 2016. The news comes to us courtesy of VentureBeat. According to the site, Amazon has indeed been working on a followup to its ill-fated Fire phone, but will not release the new model until 2016, several sources close to the situation have told VentureBeat. Amazon has been working on the phone for months, but, thrown back on its heels by the frighteningly poor sales of the first Fire phone, has “gone back to the drawing board” as one source puts it. Amazon is trying to figure out which features to put in the new phone that will make it a success. It adds, The company’s CEO Jeff Bezos is still very much behind the idea of selling a phone, our sources say, and has kept the projec

Is iOS 8.0.2 still giving you problems?

iOS 8 has been under fire for having issues with cellular data, Wi-Fi connectivity, Safari, and the new HealthKit apps. Apple tried to correct these issues with iOS 8.0.1, which made things worse. It caused cellular radios and Touch ID not to work. Recently, the Cupertino firm rolled out iOS 8.0.2 to try and correct these issues once more, but ZDNet reports that it has been causing problems in Australia. The question is, is it the same case in other countries? According to the site, Aussies have been experiencing a few minor issues with the update, but not too much of a problem that would give you headaches. The good news is that it seems to only affect iOS users in Australia, since we haven t heard any problems elsewhere. Is iOS 8.0.2 still giving you problems? Reports says only 2-3 million units of the Amazon Fire Phone will be made this year – may not be launched in the UK

According to a report, only 2-3 million units of the Amazon Fire Phone will be shipped this year. This suggests that the supply will exclusive to the US market and not other markets around the world including the UK. The news comes to us courtesy of DigiTimes. It reports, “Total shipments of Amazon s Fire phones are expected to reach 2-3 million units by year-end 2014, which is unlikely to make a significant impact on the global smartphone market, according to sources in Taiwan s handset supply chain. “Amazon is outsourcing production of the Fire phones to the Foxconn Group, with initial shipments totaling 300,000-500,000 units a month, the sources revealed. “The Fire phone is unlikely to replicate the success Amazon made with its Kindle Fire tablets as initial sales of the Fire phones are limited in the US market, while pricing is not so aggressive, the sources commented.” Specs include a 4.7-inch 720p screen, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 8

Amazon Fire Phone comes with unlimited cloud photo storage

Amazon has recently lifted the lid on the Amazon Fire Phone, the online retail giant’s first smartphone. Aside from the smartphone’s unique 3D capabilities, it comes with unlimited cloud photo storage absolutely free! This is much better than what Google, Apple, or Dropbox (used by HTC, Sony, and Samsung for cloud storage) has to offer. Other than unlimited cloud photo storage, the Fire Phone’s early adopters will get 12 months of Amazon Prime service for free. Existing Prime subscribers will get an extra year for free. Sadly, the Amazon Fire Phone is only available in the US, exclusively from US network operator AT&T. So Brits will be missing out on all of these fine services. The Fire Phone is now available for pre-order from AT&T and will be available in July. Bummed you won’t be able to enjoy unlimited cloud photo storage from the Amazon Fire Phone?
