HTC A9 (Aero) to rock MediaTek deca-core processor

When HTC lifted the lid on the HTC One M9, the device was expected to change the Taiwanese phone maker s fortunes. Sadly, it did the opposite of what the company was hoping for, forcing HTC CEO Cher Wang to promise investors that they would release a Hero phone in October. Android smartphones with MediaTek chip vulnerable to SMS hack

Korben, a French blogger, has discovered that Android smartphones with MediaTek processors under the hood shut down and reset once they receive the equal symbol “=” via SMS. If you can speak French, hit play below to watch Korben showing how the hack works. The hack will not put your personal data at risk, but it will allow hackers to spam users with the equal sign. This renders the phones unusable, since it will always reset once it receives the equal sign. It can also terminate a call once an SMS with an equal sign is received. Before anything else, note that not all smartphones with MediaTek CPUs are vulnerable to this SMS attack. To see if your phone is affected by this issue, send yourself an SMS with an equal sign. Witty, a French-speaking blog, has the solution to this problem. All you have to do is download an alternative messaging app that can receive SMS and not use the default messaging app of your phone.
