LG G3 rumoured to be clad in metal and not plastic

According to a report, LG’s German PR team published a press release all but confirming that the LG G3, the Korean phone maker’s next flagship, will be clad in a metal case and not plastic. The news comes to us courtesy of German-speaking Netzwelt.de. Part of LG’s German PR team’s press release reads, “The Quick Circle Case, which replaces the metallic back cover, supports wireless charging using the Qi-interface standards ” Of course, this was translated to English from German, which means the LG G3 may still sport a plastic rear case that has a brushed “metallic” effect. LG is expected to lift the lid on the LG G3 in three days, so you won’t have to wait very long to find out if the device is clad in metal or plastic. Stay tuned. New hardware rumoured to be unveiled at WWDC 2014 – could be the iWatch

Apple’s WWDC 2014 is scheduled to kick off on the 2nd of June. On iTunes, Apple has updated the WWDC 2.0 app for the iPhone and iPad. Included in the update is a schedule for each event. Reports, suggest that new hardware will be introduced at the event, the iWatch. This is according to 9to5Mac (1 & 2). According to the site, Apple will be introducing its new Healthbook app (an app that stores health-related data) and new hardware to run the app, the iWatch. LG G Flex rumoured to arrive in Q1 2015 – said to sport a more ‘unique’ feature

The LG G Flex is one of the most unique smartphones we’ve ever seen. It sports a flexible, curved screen and body. Try to flatten the handset and goes back to its original form. According to a new rumour, its successor will sport more “unique” features. This new rumour comes from master leaker @evleaks. He says on his website, “LG G Flex 2 coming mid-Q1 2015, possibly with a feature even more unique than self-healing plastic.” Unfortunately, he failed to get into the specifics, leaving more questions than answers. Apple rumoured to be interested in buying Beats Audio for £1.89 billion

Back in 2011, HTC purchased 50.1% of Beats Audio for $300 million (around £177 million), which led to smartphones sporting Beats Audio headphones and audio tech such as the HTC One X. However, the Taiwanese firm eventually stopped offering Beats Audio earphones due to cost. In 2012 and 2013, transactions were made, divesting HTC’s ownership of the audio tech firm. Now, Apple is rumoured to be interested in becoming the new owners of Beats Audio. The news comes to us courtesy of NYTimes. According to the publication, Apple is interested in acquiring Beats Audio for $3.2 billion (around £1.89 billion), with the two potentially announcing the deal next week. If true, this would make it Apple’s biggest acquisition. Additionally, one of the reasons behind the acquisition seems to be Beats Audio’s music streaming service that is in direct competition with Apple’s iTunes Radio. 5.5-inch iPhone Air rumoured to have been delayed until 2015

A report from Chinese-speaking Commercial Times is claiming that the rumoured 5.5-inch iPhone 6 phablet (dubbed the iPhone Air) may not be unveiled this year. It may be launched in 2015 or even later. According to the report, Apple is having issues making the device slim, with suppliers unable to meet Apple’s demands. Smartphone batteries usually measure 2.8-2.9mm in thickness, but Apple is requiring suppliers to supply batteries measuring 2mm at the most. With suppliers unable to meet Apple’s demands, the launch of the iPhone Air may be pushed back to 2015 or whenever suppliers will be able to meet these requirements. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 rumoured to be the first to sport the flexible 3-sided Youm display

According to Korean-speaking ZDNet’s industry insiders, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will be the first to sport the Korean tech giant’s flexible 3-sided “Youm” display (pictured below). Samsung has already demoed its 3-sided flexible display at CES 2013. The two other displays will be found on each side of the device, which show anything from notifications to messages. Leak reveals 277 apps to come with rumoured Samsung Galaxy S5 Active

@evleaks, a Twitter account known for leaking information on yet-to-be unveiled devices, has leaked what it claims to be the APK list of the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, successor of the tough as nails Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. The APKs amount to 277 apps, meaning the device will come with 277 active apps. So what’s so special about the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active? Honestly, we’re not sure. Last year, only the Galaxy S4 Active was waterproof and dustproof. This year, the regular Galaxy S5 is already IP67 certified, meaning the smartphone can be submerged in 1 meter of water for as much as 30 minutes. Since the S5 is already IP67 certified, the S5 Active may be IP68 certified. This means that the device can be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for up to an hour. Samsung is yet to announce when it plans to lift the lid on the Galaxy S5 Active, nor has it confirmed if the device exists.
